Cars in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials report early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.

A high-ranking official commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
